Seriously, I should have been keeping a record of the myriad ways men have treated me like rubbish.
    That's it. I'm done.
I never ever post here about guys because It's been one horror story after another. For example, the guy I was recently going out with just announced he's in a relationship on facebook. And posted pictures of him and his new girlfriend on their trip to Florida while I was in Russia.surprise!
    Men are pigs.

    Taxis
    Greetings everyone =)

Can anyone tell me, please, about how much do taxis cost in France and Spain? Specifically, I will be in Marseille, Barcelona, and Madrid, but any idea of a price per kilometer would be very helpful.

Also, are there alternate means of transportation, such as shuttles, in the airports that may be cheaper than taxis??

    Thank you!

    bicycle trip in northern europe
i'm starting to plan two bicycle trips for next summer (as i've already planned my holiday this summer). two, because i'm not sure which one will work out best but i'll do both eventually. my starting point in both cases will be in copenhagen, denmark.

plan #1 is to go by bicycle to iceland from denmark. in that regard i'm looking at ferry connections (smyril line) but it seems incredibly expensive... i don't mind travelling out of season for a cheaper ticket but it might be tricky to synchronise that with university. also i'm not really keen on going to iceland in february or march on bicycle because it's f*cking cold and icy and windy and..and..you name it.
flights aren't really an option because (they're practically the same price as the ferry) it's such a hassle to bring bicycles and it hurts inside to know of my precious mountainbike being thrown into the luggage cabin with tons of suitcases and whatnot...
the bother is that i can get an amazingly cheap ticket as a walk-on passenger but as soon as i bring the bike along it gets expensive (i can't believe it's classed with motorcycles >.< ).

ok so i'm babbling a bit.
    - what would you do travel wise?
    - i cannot imagine it being cheap to rent a bike in iceland and i really like the comfort of using my own bike that i know, that i'm used to, etc. however, i can't find a bike rental that has mountainbikes...if anyone knows of one, please tell me so i can have a look at it and consider my options.
    - do any of you have any experiences with bicycle trips in iceland? (note: i'm a native icelander currently not living in iceland, so 1) i know how expensive things are and 2) i know what the weather is like and 3) the language is on my side and 4) i have family all over so i'd be camping in their gardens, having cheap showers and food and abusing their washing machines on occasions)

my main concern is that i'm not used to long bike trips and i don't really know much about the clothing required.
    - what's the best way of not dying of heat treading away on the bike - as well as staying cool without having the wind piercing through to the bone marrow?
i know what kind of clothes to pack for the 'resting' parts of the trip, but for the on-the-move i'm rather clueless.

oh and, it'd most likely be a 3-4 week trip, going Route 1 with occasional sidetracks to see stuff and family.

plan #2 is to go by bicycle through sweden to finland. it's a relatively easy and cheap trip to plan, especially with the Allemannsrätten (which also applies to finland), and again here my main concern is just the proper clothing for the bicycling part of the trip. so i'm most likely to be going on this one next summer, but not until i'm 100% sure that the iceland trip is too expensive/bothersome for this round.

if you have any tips regarding travel food, they're welcome too. i most likely won't be having a cooling box. i actually have one small enough to use with the bike, but it's got extremely limited inside space so i'd rather not bring it along...it's just a waste of space...i mean, butter keeps out of fridge and i won't die if my water isn't cold (besides i can get free! cold and clean water from every water source i come across in iceland). so yeah, simplicity is the way to go? but any tips and tricks regarding bike trips are welcome!

We didn't have enough alcohol. I am actually not sure that there is any amount at all that would have been enough.

(Also, bad idea to see this when in a gulf between sinus migraines--all that kabooming and incomprehensible editing didn't help anything. I felt okay earlier today, but I can tell it's coming back now, and if it's anything like Friday, I'm going to spend the rest of the weekend useless.)

    Danube Cruise Coming

It’s decided! I am going on the Danube cruise this year by s/s Ukraina.

The landing points are on the map: Izmail, Nikopol-Pleven-Oryahovo, Mohács, Budapest-Esztergom, Vienna, Dürnstein, Passau, Bratislava, Budapest, Mohács, Novi-Sad, Beograd, Giurgiu-Bucharest-Oltenitå, Izmail. I will visit all the river countries except Moldova (with its 200-meter shore stripe) and Croatia.

I foresee with pleasure an interesting tour to recall! It’s a pity, Internet is missing on board, so I won’t go online in time.

One month is left for me to study the places, i.e. print out city maps, find out other tourists’ reports. Have never traveled by cruising ships, would be fun to try. My tour agent has already spooked me by neck-ties and dinner-jackets at formal dinners. I will find the former, but have no wish to buy the latter on purpose for the cruise. Had to upgrade the cabin last moment to avoid aft diesel smell.

If anybody has some advice, would be nice to hear.

Hostels in Rome. Rome - Naples round trip.
    Hello!

Has anyone got any Hostel recommendations in Rome? (this question has probably been asked before, but it's difficult to search a community, sorry!) I'll be there for five days in September and I'll be travelling solo. I'll have a suitcase (not too big) and a backpack, which is what worries me the most. I've only stayed in a hostel once - and it wasn't in italy - , and that was overnight so I did not have luggage and I was sharing with friends so we were all in one dorm. Have any of you ran into trouble taking suitcases into dorms? I won't be leaving anything valuable in there or anything. I know that some hostels have lockers, but i'm not too sure if my suitcase would fit in one. i can't find dimensions anywhere!

Also, I really want to go to Pompeii and was thinking of doing a day round trip (Rome - Naples - Pompeii and back). Has anyone does this before? I've checked train timetables and everything, it looks do-able. I've read however that trains are not too reliable in Rome? The cheap ones I mean, i forget how they're called. I don't mean the Eurostar.

    Thank you very much.

    morocco
My boyfriend and I are going to be spending about two weeks in Morocco, last week of September/first week of October. So far we're looking at Marrakech, Casablanca, Essaouira, and possibly Fez. I would welcome any tips: things to avoid? Things not to miss? Hotel/hostel recommendations? And is true that, ahem, stomach troubles are really that unavoidable for Americans in Morocco?

As you can see, my hair did NOT stay as enormous as I had originally made it. Dammit, I knew I should have bought a can of AquaNet.

The Zombie Walk was a huge amount of fun. I was ruefully amused that apparently even when I try to make myself look like the menacing and shambling undead, the typical comment said to me is "Awww, cute!" Oh well, I have accepted my cartoon-like nature.

Happy 4th. I'm not doing anything special for it, but it seems to be proper etiquette to mention it here.

Yesterday was a good day. I got a lot done. I had the day off, and so I went to the gym and hurt myself. That's usually my goal. Lets me know I'm accomplishing something. Then I went fabric shopping, but got nothing, so that was a bust. Have I mentioned that I hate the fabric district in NY? Yes I have.

Then I bought some new summer sandle-y shoes. Yay. My old ones are 3 years old and blown out.
Then I bought kitty food and Lynne food, and then I dyed my poor hair. And then I mopped. So I think that was fairly accomplished for a non-motivated person such as myself.

To make up for it, I slept till 1:30 today.

My only goal today is to not eat a cupcake from this heavenly place around the corner, and to take pictures of the fireworks tonight.

    Japan in October?
This is sort of a continuation of my post a while ago about Southeast Asia.

The background is that I'm Australian and my partner is European, and we've got three weeks of October as holidays. As our sum total of experience in Asia is a couple of days in Singapore (me) and a few transits through Changi Airport (both of us), we're definitely looking at going somewhere in Asia. Nothing too off-the-beaten-path, but likewise something that will be a good experience.
A lot of people have been recommending Japan, on the grounds that it's easy to get around and comparatively cheap. Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara seem to be the "big three", although Osaka comes up in conversation a lot, and I'm kind of curious to go to Hiroshima as well. Neither of us speaks any Japanese, although we're pretty quick learners.

The three questions I have for you clever people are these:
    - How hard is it to get around in the cities I've listed (or overall in the tourist spots of Japan)? I've heard everything from "It's a piece of cake, you couldn't get lost if you wanted to", right through to "Write down every location in Japanese, plan your route carefully and hope you find someone who speaks good English when you get lost despite that".
    - What would the weather be like then? It's presumably not going to be as warm as it would be around this time of year, but will we be able to go sightseeing without being bothered by the cold?
    - Particularly in the big cities (Tokyo especially), just how crowded is it really? I've heard stories of people being sort of pushed into metro trains by attendants when the carriages are already overflowing, and that's not really an experience I'm particularly keen to have.

    Thanks in advance.

    Arizona and Chicago
I am going with my mom and sister to visit my grandma in Arizona in a week and I am wondering what you all think is worth visiting there. My grandma lives outside of Phoenix, so we'll be in that area generally but will be going to the Grand Canyon and so we'll be out that way for a few days. Also, if there were something worth visiting elsewhere in Arizona, driving out there is an option.

That might not be too much to go on but basically I haven't been out there since I was 10 and it'll be nice to see as much as I can/make the most of my time there. I can't think of any interests that would matter when being there, but if it helps my sister and I are 20 and all the outings will probably be the four of us, so things that would satisfy our wide age-range would be great.

I have seen ideas on places to visit in Chicago in this community but I thought that maybe you guys would have more specific recommendations based on my particular group. There will be nine of us coming from various locations around the country, age range being 19 to 24. We already have booked our hotel downtown, so we have that covered. We'll be staying a bit later in the summer, Friday-Monday, and using public transportation. We've already decided we want to go to Shedd Aquarium and the Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. Are there any particular places to go that you guys would recommend? Places to eat? (Myself and two others are vegetarians so recommendations for places meat eaters would like would be good but also places for vegetarians and especially places for both.) Other tips you might have?

I live relatively close to Chicago but many others don't and this will be their first and maybe last time there and I'm sure especially for them it would be great to have as full of a Chicago experience as possible. At the same time, we're young and just getting there/staying there will be costly and while we're willing to spend money on things that are worthwhile, if you have ideas about cheaper places to eat/have fun, that'd be great too.

    Dual centre Euro trip
Hi all, I require your guidance!

2 friends and I are planning a week away at the start of September. We initially planned a long weekend away in a European city, but this has now turned into a bigger plan...

We're looking to do a dual centre trip, most likely. We'll probably independently organise it and book trains/buses between. We'd just like to spend the first few days in a city with great nightlife and then move on to somewhere we can fully relax and drift pleasently out of our likely hungover states..seaside, lakeside, spa...something like that.

I've been looking at Prague, Budapest and Barcelona as city ideas but am even sticking on the places to go after if we picked any of these...

For info, we're all from London if that influences your recommendations at all.

Thanks for any suggestions and any info.

    Calgary Foods + Stampede
    Hi LJTravelers-

I'm heading to Calgary, Alberta in a couple days for business, and have no clue about it.

I'd like to request restaurant recommendations, especially if they're close to the place of business (near Calgary Tower, 11th and MacLeod, Steven Ave Mall, St. Patrick Island) or the hotel (Stanley/River Park, Industrial District, Macleod and Mission) that you especially enjoyed (or that I should simply avoid). I look forward to trying Tim Horton's, and I'm sure my new employers will show me around, but I always like doing a little exploring and taking advice from people like you.

Apparently the Calgary Stampede is going on as well...I don't know if I should be excited or scared. Is the city jam-packed when this is on? Any areas I should avoid when it comes to crowds?
